Guided walks and cultural visits

Spend your time exploring the beautiful scenery around Lake Nkuruba with our friendly Tourist Guides. The 'Top of the World' viewpoint, not far from Nkuruba, really is a must see!

Enjoy a guided walk through Lake Nkuruba forest and wetland area, learning about the monkeys, birds and trees found in our Nature Reserve. 


Duration: 45 mins – 1 hour

View the stunning scenery at the ‘Top of the World’ viewpoint. Overlooking three crater lakes and the nearby Kibale National Park. Not to be missed!

Our guides will take you on a full day’s hike in the stunning lower ranges of the Rwenzori mountains, with a visit to the Rwangimba Hot Springs. 


Duration: 1 Full Day. 

Cost: 325,000 USh per 2 people (reduced rates may be possible for larger groups)

Explore five crater lakes during this enjoyable circular walk. Learn about crater lake formation whilst viewing birds, trees and beautiful scenery. 


Duration: 3 – 4 hours.

Experience a glorious trek through beautiful countryside, past three volcanic crater lakes and on to the stunning Mahoma Waterfall. 


Duration: 6 hours.

Take a guided walk through our local villages. Meet and greet our local community and learn about our unique Ugandan culture and traditions. 


Duration: 3½ hours. 

Cost: 30,000 USh per person

We offer our guests the opportunity to spend the night with a local family. You will share a traditional Ugandan meal with them and sleep under the same roof as your host family. 


This activity provides an opportunity for our guests to immerse themselves in our Ugandan culture, while supporting our local community. 


Duration: Overnight stay. 

Cost: Your accommodation costs to Nkuruba will be paid directly to your host family.

Lake Nkuruba Nature Reserve offers you a wide range of activities to further enjoy your stay with us. Explore the natural beauty of this region by taking a Guided Walk with our tourist guides visiting crater lakes, the Mahoma waterfall or the stunning 'Top of the World' viewpoint. 


Visit one of the largest village markets in Uganda, just 2 km away from our site, or book a cultural homestay with a local family to experience our traditional Ugandan culture. ​Alternatively, rest within our Nature Reserve, sit back and relax. 

Watch the monkeys eating, grooming and chasing each other in the trees, enjoy cultural dance performances from our Nkuruba Development Youth Group, or buy some traditional Ugandan crafts and support the women in our local community.

Enjoy cultural dance performances from the talented Nkuruba Development Youth Group. The group is supported by our project and performs within the grounds of the Nature Reserve. 


They perform for our guests every Saturday and Sunday from around 2pm - 4pm. 


Please come along, enjoy the show and support our local talented youth. Please do let us know if you would like to book a performance outside of the times noted above and we'll arrange this for you. 

A two-hour performance from Nkuruba Development Youth Group costs 100,000 Ush. Proceeds are used to support the group to allow them to perform in competitions and to support their education.

We stock a variety of beautiful Ugandan hand crafts for sale, all of which have been made by local women. All proceeds go directly to these women and therefore your purchases helps to support our local community.

Explore one of the largest village markets in Uganda situated just 2 km from the Nature Reserve; the weekly market days (Mondays and Thursdays) sell an abundance of quality food, drink, clothes and local crafts.

Why not explore the surrounding area and its abundant crater lakes by bicycle? Alternatively, explore a bit further afield on a motorbike (hire is subject to availability, please ask staff for details).
